Well another year has past and here is a quick look back at the Elmwood Little League Year. Again this year we had a record number of children sign up with over 700 boys and girls from ages 6 to 16. The Elmwood Little League added 2 Instructional Teams and 1 Senior Boys Team bringing the total number of teams to 41. The season started with the first ever game played under the new lights on the Major League field with Sidebar & Grille playing Castle Equipment. What a joy it was this season to go down and watch the chidren playing under the lights and the family there watching them on a nice warm night. To see some of the faces on these children as they played their games under the lights words alone can not explain it. This year also was a first as we brought back the Tee Ball All Stars which were also held under the lights and what a fun time that was. This year was also a first as our own Steve Arlan worked hard to have a Major Girls Softball State Tournament held at the Elmwood Little League. This was the first ever State Tournament played at Elmwood Little League with girls from Cumberland, Cranston, Warwick and Tiverton playing at our Girls Softball Field. Thank you Steve for making this dream a reality. The season ended again with a great Field Day with pony rides, water slides, dunk tank, Regal Reptiles, Pawtucket Red Sox Mascot and more.
As the season ended some improvements had begun with the newly renovated office at JT Owens, the dugouts at JT Owens and Ardoene got a fresh coat of paint with signs. The Major boys batting cage got a much needed fence roof on it. The damaged bench boards at JT Owens were replaced by the Parks Department and just recently the Forestry and Parks Department planted several trees and shrubs throughout the park. This year I was elected President and my goal is to get the Major Boys Dugout fixed so it isn't flooded all the time, get the scoreboard at Ardoene up and running plus get a much needed Batting Cage at Ardoene Field. As you know the Elmwood Little League is the largest Little League in Providence and I am proud to be part of such a successfull organization. A quick Thank You to the Board of Directors of the Elmwood Little League both old and new, all the volunteer coaches, the sponsors, and everyone who has helped the Elmwood Little League last year and before that. A special Thank You to Joe Wojtanowski for all his dedicated years serving as President and I will have some big shoes to fill following Joe. He stepped down this year as President but is staying on as Equipment Manager.
As we wrap up another year I would like to take this time to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year. Please stop back as signups will begin in March and all the information will posted on this Blog. Opening Day will be on Sunday April 19th.
Thank You to everyone who made 2008 a successfull year for the Elmwood Little League.
